President Draupadi Murmu honored Lal Krishna Advani with Bharat Ratna

Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani was conferred with the prestigious Bharat Ratna Award by President Draupadi Murmu at his residence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the residence of the senior elected leader due to ill health. Advani was born in 1927 in Karachi, Pakistan. He has been the President of Bharatiya Janata Party since 1980.

Earlier on Saturday, President Draupadi Murmu in a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, awarded the country’s highest civilian honor ‘Bharat Ratna’ to former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan and two-time Chief Minister of Bihar Karpoori Thakur. Awards presented to Rao, Singh, Thakur, and Swaminathan were received by their family members. The honor conferred on former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao was handed over by Murmu to his son PV Prabhakar Rao.

‘Bharat Ratna’ is the country’s highest civilian award, which was introduced in 1954. Everyone is entitled to the Bharat Ratna award irrespective of caste, profession, rank, or gender. The award is given in recognition of the highest level of performance in any field of humanitarian endeavor. It’s a very proud moment for those who get this award.

This year, the government announced the Bharat Ratna Award to senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Deputy Prime Minister Lalu Krishna Advani.

Born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi, Pakistan, L.K. Advani, who was the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party since 1980, has a political career spanning nearly three decades.

From 1999 to 2004, he held important posts as Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister under Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Prime Minister Modi was universally respected for his wisdom and unwavering commitment to a strong India and recognized Advani’s vital role in the country’s progress.

His life ranged from local work to serving the nation as Deputy Prime Minister. He identified himself as Home Minister and Information and Broadcasting Minister. His parliamentary speeches were always exemplary and full of rich information.”, the Prime Minister wrote on Twitter.

A polyglot, politician, and scholar, P.V. Narasimha Rao is known as the Chanakya of Indian politics, whose tenure as Prime Minister brought about far-reaching economic reforms in the country. He was the Prime Minister of the country from 1991 to 1996. He was the first Prime Minister of the country from a southern state. He was the first Congress leader apart from the Nehru-Gandhi family to complete a five-year term as Prime Minister. He steered India out of the financial crisis of the early 1990s.

Rao, a confidant of the Nehru-Gandhi family, at various times in the 1980s, held important non-financial portfolios at the Center – the Ministries of External Affairs, Defense, and Home Affairs. He Died on 23 December 2004 at the age of 83.
