Not surprisingly, the first modern Jawa motorcycle is named Java, a tribute to the first Java motorcycle, which was also simply called Java. The Jawa is a modern classic 300cc motorcycle that competes with Royal Enfield’s 350cc range in India. The overall design of the Jawa is reminiscent of the original Jawa motorcycles of the 1970s and 1980s that ruled the Indian roads. The round headlights, fenders, and bulbous fuel tank all look retro, while small details like the chain guard, seat, and cigar-shaped exhaust add to the retro look. This time the new bike has modern heart and mechanical parts.

The Jawa brand is launched by Classic Legends Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the Mahindra Group, which owns a 60 percent stake in the company. The remaining stake is held by entrepreneur Anupam Thareja and Boman Irani, son of Rustom Irani, founder of Adarsh Java Company. The Jawa and Jawa 42 are powered by a liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with a displacement of 293 cc, designed to produce 27 hp and a maximum torque of 28 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

The bike weighs 170kg and has a seat height of 765mm, the lowest in its category. The Jawa has a wheelbase of 1,369 mm and a fuel tank capacity of 14 liters. The Jawa Perak uses the same engine as the Jawa and Jawa 42, but the bore is larger and 332 cc.

Jawa Perak’s engine generates 30 HP and 31 Nm of maximum torque. Three colors are available on Java: Black, Gray, and Maroon, while six colors are available on Java 42: Haley Teal, Galactic Green, Starlight Blue Lumos Lime, Nebula Blue, and finally Comet Red.

Jawa motorcycles will be available at the company’s new independent dealerships in India. 105 dealerships will soon open across the country and deliveries will begin early next year. Jawa motorcycles are manufactured at the company’s Pithampur plant in Madhya Pradesh. Bookings for Jawa and Jawa 42 have started on Jawa’s website.

Jawa India offers a total of 6 bikes. The list of Java bike models in the country includes 6 cruiser bikes. The most popular Java motorcycles in India include Jawa Forty Two, Jawa 42, Java 300, Java Perak, Java 42 Bobber, and Java 350.
